Ways to increase your home's luxury without breaking the bank.
Everyone wants their
home to be magnificently pretty and luxurious, and, at the same time…
comfortable. The good thing is that you do not have to own a mansion or inherit
antiquities to upgrade your living room or your bedroom… with few tips and
minor adjustments, you can make your own home close to in a high-end house!
1- Declutter
This applies to every
room of the house, no matter what purpose it has… from the old magazines in the
living room, to a toothbrush no one uses anymore, to the old towels you are
keeping for ‘a later use’: start by removing these. Get rid of unwanted items
around you and you will soon find out the magical feeling of an empty space.
Less is more… always
remember this while tidying. If you haven’t been using a certain item for more
than a season, it’d better –probably- be elsewhere.
Try selling these second
hands item... whether it’s from your wardrobe or from the kitchen cupboards….
The extra money will sure come in handy.
You will see immediately
the effect decluttering has: a tidy place. Nothing screams luxury, especially
in modern rooms in general and modern living rooms in particular, more
than a well-organized area.
2- Lighting
There is nothing more
elegant than a bright room. Windows and natural light can have a great effect
but adding your touch sure is the key. Shop for ceiling lights, check online or
in thrift stores, add light fixtures… try adding indirect lights. In short,
make any room bright.
At the same time, think
of your night ambiance and atmosphere… in other words, the luxurious daylight
is only as fancy as it is cozy at night.
Add candles – electric
ones work perfectly- to your modern sitting room décor. During the day,
they’re decorative, during the night they’re sumptuous.
3- The
bedroom
Although it might not be
a room to show-off but I personally think that chic is an inner state…and it
can be reflected from the smallest details inside your own personal space. Take
your wardrobe
cabinet for example; as big or small as it could look, try adding some
mirrors to its doors. Depending on the size of your room, you can cover all
doors, or cover just one. Reflection is nothing less than a space-adding tool.
By enhancing just your wardrobe, you would have taken your regular bedroom to a
new level.
Aside from the wardrobe,
why not add a magical touch to your own bed? Replacing the bed itself could be costly
but adding high-end linen and pillows sure make it look better. Wait for sales
or shop online. Some very famous brands offer up to 90% discounts during some
clearance periods. Get what suits the bed design, in style and in size.
For pillows, opt for big
pillows as a decorative item and make sure to stay within the room
color-palette.
Tranquility in your
bedroom is luxury! White, off-white, beige, greige…. A mixture of ‘classique
and moderne’
4- The
guest’s bathroom
A forgotten part of the
house, where every guest – probably- makes a stop. Yes, even your restroom can
reflect luxury.
Add some pout-pourri,
maybe scented candles too. Don’t display too much, but display what is nice and
needed… towels as a start.
If your bathroom is
large enough, opt for a visible cabinet storage. With few matching
towels and an empty basket on the top shelf, you would be displaying very
nicely basic items, making even your smallest bathroom, a deluxe one.
5- Go Green
More like colorful,
blooming greens… and I mean, obviously, flowers. Have them fresh, subscribe to
the website you have always wanted to try, the one sending a bouquet every
week… get your lucky bamboos (we all need some luck anyway) or even the cactus
that doesn’t require much care. Plant them in any corner of your living room,
put them in any regular vase and they sure will make everything shine.
And don’t ever
underestimate the power of greens in any place. They reflect positivity, joy,
life, and ultimately, they define luxury.
Finally, you don’t need millions to turn your place to your kingdom. Give it some time, search for deals, invest in the small items that make the difference, and most importantly, give it your heart.
No matter how small the dimensions of any room are, with just the right alterations, it sure will reflect the vibes you want it to.
